The Green Energy Training Center is powered by AFC First Financial Corporation, and the national Leadership and Workforce Development Center of Lehigh Carbon Community College. AFC First is a leading national provider of residential energy efficiency and renewable energy financing programs including Pennsylvania's Keystone HELP which is principally supported by the Pennsylvania Treasury and Department of Environmental Protection. LCCC is among the nations's top community colleges and workforce development providers.

The Green Energy Training Center's primary facility is housed in the AFC First Energy Center in Lower Macungie Township, PA. The GETC offers several state of the art classroom and meeting rooms, webinar and video production facilities and computer labs. The GETC was a recent recipient of a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.

The Green Energy Training Center also provides training at other locations in partnership with sponsors nationally.

Home Performance 101

ATTENTION KEYSTONE HELP APPROVED CONTRACTORS: Unless you are BPI or RESNET certified this training is required for all Keystone HELP Approved Contractors who wish to attain the status of "Trained Contractor" , which wil soon be required as the mimum standard to participate in the program.. In this one day course you will 1) learn the “house as a system” approach to energy conservation and energy efficiency, understand the market forces affecting homeowners (consumer demand, utility rate caps, energy cost volatility, national security, climate change policy, etc., learn about state and federal incentives and how to integrate the “house as a system” approach into their business model.

BPI Building Analyst Certification

This “Must Have” certification is the recognized national standard for contractors engaged in energy-related improvements and Energy Auditing, such as HVAC, weatherization and renewable energy. This class includes classroom instruction, field testing, and both the written and In-House Field Test certification tests.  Topics in the classroom training include principles of energy and building science, building shell and thermal envelope, building systems such as HVAC, domestic hot water, lighting, appliances and blower door testing.  This five day course includes comprehensive classroom instruction, hands-on field study in a residential home and both written and (upon passing written test) the In-Home Field Test.

BPI Building Envelope Certification

This 4-day course is a residential specialization that discusses how to enhance and improve the envelope’s thermal and pressure boundaries through insulation and air-sealing techniques. Students will learn how to analyze a home’s shell and why the process is so important to the functioning of the home as an energy efficient unit. Course includes all handout materials and a written and field test. Upon successful completion, students will receive their BPI Building Envelope Certification.

Geothermal IGSHPA Accredited Installers Training Course PLUS

This class includes a 560 page Residential and Light Commercial Design and Installation Guide, and lessons on marketing and business development in the geothermal industry. This course includes a 3 year membership in the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA). Required Certification for New Keystone HELP Geothermal Loan Program .

Geothermal IGSHPA Accredited Drillers Training Course PLUS

This Drillers training course is designed to help well-water drillers, loop-filed design engineers, drilling company project managers and others within the industry  grow their business into GeoExchange borehole and loop field production drilling. This course includes a 3 year membership in the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA). Required Certification for New Keystone HELP Geothermal Loan Program.

RESNET HERS Rater Certification

The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) is a national standards making body for building energy efficiency rating systems such as HERS. Comprehensive classroom training plus hands-on field study leading to National Rater Certification. Learn how to conduct home energy audits and/or perform field inspections and building diagnostics necessary to make meaningful recommendations for installation measures that will enhance comfort, health, safety, building durability and energy savings.

EPA Required Lead Paint Safety Certification

Make Sure You Have Your Lead Paint Certification
The US Environment Protection Agency’s (EPA) new Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule becomes fully effective and enforceable shortly. This new Federal regulation is intended to protect children and adults alike during renovation, repair and painting projects in pre-1978 housing and in pre-1978 child-occupied facilities, such as daycare centers, where lead-based paint will be disturbed by the work.
The final Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RR&P) rule in Section 402 (c) (3) of the Toxics Substance Control Act (TSCA) establishes requirements for training and certifying renovators, other renovation workers for renovation work practices; and for recordkeeping. Firms must have one or more “Certified Renovators” assigned to jobs where lead paint is disturbed.
